U.S. Senate initiates debate on $550 billion infrastructure bill

The U.S. Senate may pass a bipartisan $550 billion infrastructure bill next week.

After weeks of intermittent negotiations, the bill officially kicked off debate on Friday. The Senate passed the debate by 66 to 28 votes, reflecting the broad support of the bill between the two parties.

However, lawmakers failed to complete the goal of finalizing the text of the bill on Friday afternoon, and the debate on the amendments will continue for several days, which means that the final vote on the bill will not be possible until the weekend of next week.

If the Senate passes this infrastructure bill, it will lay the foundation for future consideration of a budget resolution. The budget resolution may help the rest of Biden’s economic agenda to be passed, including a $3.5 trillion plan involving policy reforms such as climate change, taxation, healthcare, and immigration.
