A total of 41 people have been confirmed dead and the 66 wounded have sent to six hospitals, according to latest update from local railway authorities.
The authorities also said rescuers are pulling out two passengers now who’re trapped in the train.
Some local media have state the death toll is as high as 48.

Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, on Friday extended condolences to the victims of the train accident in Taiwan.
The spokesperson said the mainland is greatly concerned about the accident and is closely monitoring the rescue operation.

The train, which was traveling to Taitung, came off the rails in a tunnel at around 9:00 a.m. local time, causing some carriages to hit the walls, the local fire department said.
A rescue mission is underway.
In 2018, a passenger train with 366 passengers on board derailed in Taiwan’s Yilan County, claiming 18 lives and wounding over 160 others.
